December 16, 1998 marked the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Yunnan Tea Corporation.

On the same day 60 years ago the China Tea Corporation dispatched to Yunnan its commissioner Zheng Hechun and technician Feng Shaoqiu to take study tours in Yunnan, and sucessfully produced the now famous Yunnan Black Tea. To commemorate this historic occassion a selection of the five most famous teas was issued and called the Lucky tea line. Each of the five boxes containe 100 grams of tea.

If you are truly interested in a fine cup of tea, with tea from the tea capital of the world, then here is where you will find that tea. The teas are located in the Southwest frontiers of China's, Yunnan Province, which features rough terrain that is dotted with cloud veiled mountains. The province has abundant rainfall, mild climate and fertile land, all of which prepare ideal conditions for tea cultivation, and Yunnan is the homeland of tea trees.

According to historical records, Yunnan has a history of 2,100 years since it domesticated the aboriginal tea (known as the "wild tea"). In Yunnan province, the 800-year-old-cultivation-type ancient tea tree is still growing in the Nannuo Mountains of Menghai County. The 1,700-year-old ancient tea tree, now growing in Bangwei on Lincang Prefecture, indicates the transition between the wild and cultivation types of tea trees. They are praised as the "Three Ancient Tea-tree Kings" of the world. Those ancient tea trees are regarded as the "living fossils" of Yunnan's aboriginal tea plants.
