Thailand imports white marble from Mandalay N. Burma. When the marble is in Thailand it is then carved into the most stunning Buddhas imaginable. These Buddhas can range in size from 4 inches to many feet high. The Portal Market has a special arrangement with the Xiao Lan White Marble Farm located in Mae Sai, N. Thailand on the Burmese border. The Buddhas are made from grade A marble that is quarried in Burma and transported to Thailand. The Buddhas can be shipped any where in the world. Below is a thumbnail gallery of the marble farm and some of the exquisite Buddhas that have been carved and are ready for shippment.

What is a marble farm?
A marble farm is a place where large marble stones are brought to be carved into statuary most notable the Buddha and Quan Yin when located in Thailand. The stones are shipped from Mandalay, Burma and are often times cut to the shape and size of the projectd statuary and sometimes just in block form. There are times the stutuary will come finished from Burma, but will undergo polishing and final detail cutting by Thai sculptors. The following gallery shows all these aspects of the marble farm, the stones and the carvings.
To order the finished Buddhas I have created a separate page. If there is a custom order requested the Portal Market will provide a quote as well as take care of all shipping. If there is a specific mudra or position desired please submit a sketch of the Buddha you would like. Please allow at least 4 months for the large Buddhas to be completed.
