"Witchwood" is, more than anything, a collection of musical works born out of homesickness.

I was born and grew up in Norway. The vast Scandinavian forests, snow white in the winter and deep green in the summer, was always a part of my life. My dad always took me fishing in the weekends, and I used to treasure these moments in quiet tranquility in the wilderness. I remember having the feeling that the forest itself was alive and would softly speak to me if I just listened closely enough.

By the time I grew up, writing music had become such a big part of my life that I decided to take the big plunge and move from Norway to England, where there was more of a lively music scene. I moved to England in 1995 and since then I have made my living as a composer. Now, I have never actually regretted this move, but I admit that there have been times when I have longed for the beauty of the Scandinavian forests so much that it almost hurt.

"Witchwood" was written and produced in the first year after I moved to England. I had just moved to a new country, and my social life was, well, non existent. I was completely alone with my music, and my thoughts always went back to my home country. I don't think I realised it at the moment, but on thinking back, I realise now that I was desperately lonely; and writing the "Witchwood" album was the most natural thing for me to do.

Since then, I have grown to think of England has "home" and my longing for the Scandinavian surroundings aren't as strong any more. But this difficult period of my life around 1995-1996 has left us with "Witchwood", a kind of tribute to the deep Scandinavian wilderness which I so dearly love. Whenever I hear the album these days, it still makes me think of the times when my dad took me fishing in the dark Norwegian pine forests.

"Witchwood" is a tribute to the Nordic/Scandinavian forests and the things that seem to come to life when you're in these forests. There are creatures all around - some of them are real, some of them are only in our imagination, but that doesn't matter. What matters is the feeling that they leave us with. And that's what I've tried to capture on the "Witchwood" CD. I hope you'll all enjoy it.

Bjorn Lynne, Summer 1998.

Witchwood is a very haunting sound scape that borders on the surreal dimension of another time or another place. Sometimes nature instills its presence in ways that can become totally new to us. Bjorn Lynne is a compser that can compose music, but all the while there is a distant calling beakoning our sonic experience into an etheric realm where Earth Spirits and human imagination twine. The following are a few sound sample of these dimensions of the psyche yearning to return to the souce of all creativity. (Webmaster Earth Portals)
