One can't improve on the tipi design, it's perfect. But, we can improve on materials and reinforcements. Also, this of course, will increase life expectancy. We have been making tipis for well ove 30 years. We have not only camped in them, we have lived in them through all seasons and all kinds of weather. Through the years of trial and error, we were able to see where they needed to be reinforced. Some areas have far more stress than others. Not only in the cover and the liner, but also in the door. All these years of use have enabled us to produce the tipi's we now offer you. WE sincerely believe these tipi's to be the finest lodges in existence today.

A tipi truly is an indigenous structure. If pitched properly it will withstand winds of hurricane velocity. It's cool in the summer and warm and snug in the winter. A tipi is always white, this will reflect heat from the sun, and be bright and cheery inside on the darkest night or gloomiest day. That's why most covers were not painted in the old days. It makes the tipi dark inside.

But of course, the liner wall was painted, making your living space beautiful, decorative, and just down right cozy inside.

Besides all of this, the tipi sets up quickly and easily. Once you understand and have set it up a few times you will be amazed at how fast you can do it. In the old days, "Buffalo Days", the average tip size tip! was from 14 to 16 feet. Once you really get into it you quickly realize these are the two most efficient sizes. They are easy to move, easy to set up, and easy to heat. In the old days, it was the woman who set the tipi up, not the man. A woman could set her tipi up in 20 minutes. Today two people will have no problem ereting their tipi.

There are two features that make the tipi quite unique. These are the smoke flaps and the liner. Working together, they create and control the draft. The cover of the tipi is always off the ground one or two inches, while the liner goes to the butt of each pole, then a 10 inch tuck at the base of the liner goes under the ground cloth. The heat from a small fire inside the tipi draws cool air from under the cover, and is drawn up between the two walls and out the chimmney. This flow of air draws out the smoke. The smoke flaps, one on each side of the chimmney hole, are held up and adjusted by two poles outside of the cover. So when the wind changes direction, you simply re-adjust the chimmney accordingly to prevent wind from blowing the smake back in.
Please note poles do not ship wityh the tipi, and the tipi's are not painted or decorated. 10oz canvas is used. Liners use two 36 inch wide 10oz pieces of canvas. Added also is a 10 inch wide synthetic tuck which goes under the ground cloth to seal the bottom of the tipi inside, and the tuck lays on the ground and is exposed to dampness continually. It will not rot. All covers are full length pieces, (no patching).
